There was very high rate of unemployment in Austria at the beginning of 1930´s in the time og Big Depression. Young alumnis of Vienna University, conviction social democrats-mathematician, social psychologist and lawyer-decided to analyze in detail the effects of mass unemployment in Marienthal, close to Vienna. Most of the families were previously employed in the local textile mill. They lost their jobs and lived on the small unemployment benefits. The research is very interesting, because the researchers decided to analyze a lot of things and how they conducted their research, because the sociological research was just being born at that time. We will tell more about the results of their research and about these three-at that time-young researchers: Marie Jahodová, Paul Lazarsfeld and Hans Zeisel.
